The second edition of the Uttar Pradesh T20 League (UPT20) is set to run from August 25 to September 14, 2024, with all matches scheduled to be played at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
This season’s league will see participation from six teams: Meerut Mavericks, Noida Kings, Lucknow Falcons, Kashi Rudras, Gorakhpur Lions, and Kanpur Superstars.
In the inaugural season, the Meerut Mavericks had an impressive performance, winning seven out of ten games and topping the points table with 15 points. They progressed to the semi-finals, where they defeated the Lucknow Falcons but were eventually outplayed by the Kashi Rudras in the final, losing by seven wickets.
Key Players and Retentions
Swastik Chikara was the standout performer for the Mavericks last season, amassing 494 runs in nine innings with an average of 70.57. Yash Garg and Kartik Tyagi also made significant contributions, finishing among the top wicket-takers.
Rinku Singh will continue to lead the Mavericks this season. The team has retained several key players from last year, including Madhav Kaushik, Rituraj Sharma, Yash Garg, and Yogendra Doyla. New additions to the squad include local talents Shubhanker Shukla, Rajat Sanserwal, Divyansh Rajput, Zeeshan Ansari, Shiven Malhotra, and Dipanshu Yadav. Notably, Zeeshan Ansari, who played for the Lucknow Falcons in the previous season, and Shiven Malhotra, formerly with Noida Super Kings, are among the new signings.
Under the captaincy of Rinku Singh, known for his finishing skills with the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Meerut Mavericks are expected to be a formidable team in the upcoming T20 league.
The Meerut Mavericks will kick off their campaign against the Kashi Rudras on August 25, 2024, in the opening match of the UP T20 League 2024.
